Secretary of Iran\u2019s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani says the body will review any request by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for negotiations, as a recent European bid to reinstate sanctions unraveled Tehran\u2019s cooperation agreement with the UN nuclear watchdog.<\/p>\n

Tehran – hambastegimelli – He made the remarks after a meeting with Iraq\u2019s National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji in the Iranian capital of Tehran on Monday, less than a month after the conclusion of the so-called snapback process initiated by the UK, Germany, and France aimed at restoring all UN Security Council sanctions against Iran previously lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal.<\/p>\n

Iran had earlier warned that the European trio\u2019s move would render null and void the agreement signed with the IAEA in Egypt\u2019s Cairo on September 9 on practical modalities to resume cooperation.<\/p>\n

Asked by reporters whether Iran-IAEA talks will take place, Larijani said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi \u201cannounced after the Cairo summit that if the snapback mechanism is invoked, negotiations will be considered null and void.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the agency submits a request on this matter, it must be reviewed by the Secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Iran suspended all cooperation with the IAEA following June\u2019s Israeli-US aggression against the country, citing the agency\u2019s politically motivated resolutions and its failure to condemn the terrorist assault.<\/p>\n

Regarding IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi\u2019s position on Iran, Larijani said, \u201cGrossi has done his part, and his reports will no longer have any impact.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, he said Iran believes that the Europeans \u201cmisused”\u00a0the snapback and carried out an \u201cunlawful act\u201d despite Iran\u2019s compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) over the past 10 years.<\/p>\n

Today, he emphasized, China and Russia do not accept the re-imposition of anti-Iran sanctions as UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorsed the JCPOA, has\u00a0terminated.<\/p>\n

He also described Araji\u2019s visit to Iran as important, hoping that it would deepen relations between the two neighboring countries.<\/p>\n

He further thanked Iraq for its stance during the 12-day war on Iran, and hailed Baghdad\u2019s position in international forums concerning political issues.<\/p>\n

Israel and the US misused Iraqi territory during their aggression against Iran, he said. \u201cOur friends in Iraq are following up on this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIraq is an independent country that has preserved its independence for years after the dictatorship, but the United States and the Zionist regime do not allow this independence to be maintained.\u201d<\/p>\n

Araji, for his part, said Iraq has repeatedly emphasized that it will not allow its airspace to be used against Iran, and that it will not permit any party or group to threaten Iran\u2019s security through Iraqi territory.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s security is part of Iraq\u2019s security, he noted, warning that another war would benefit no one in the region.<\/p>\n

The Iraqi official said Iraq opposes the use of sanctions as a tool and puts a premium on dialogue and diplomacy.<\/p>\n
